Downtown Seattle

There is a lot to see in Downtown Seattle, and the sights, due to the vibrant and growing nature of the city's core, are always changing. We will see downtown's retail stores, including the flagship stores of Nordstrom and Eddie Bauer, and we may just air some opinions about where we like to eat! Other sites we'll see in downtown: The Pike Place Farmer's Market, the first Starbuck's Coffee shop, and the Fish Markets. We'll also see some of the art funded by Seattle's 1% for art project.

The Waterfront

Seattle's Waterfront is also an exciting place to go. Here, at the center of many of Seattle's water-based industries, we will see the freight port, Harbor Island, and also the docks for the Washington State ferry system, which take commuters, tourists, and others to and from Bainbridge, Vashon, and other islands. We'll head North along the waterfront past many souvenir shops including Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe. We'll see Ivars'; Acres of Clams, and many other Puget Sound attractions including boat cruises, parasailing, the Seattle Aquarium, the Omnidome, the Maritime Museum, and the Edgewater Inn, a hotel where, at one time, you could fish right out of your window. Finally we will head up to the beautiful Myrtle Edwards Park with its unparalleled views of Elliott Bay.

Pioneer Square

At the epicenter of Seattle, we'll see many of the oldest buildings in town, and also hear about the fire which, about a century ago, leveled the entire city. Pioneer Square is also home to many wonderful art galleries, antique stores, and bookstores. Here is much local color as well, where many of Seattle's bohemian types rub shoulders with some of the city's fast-moving entrepreneurs. We'll see corridors of brick and stone buildings and cobblestone streets. We'll also see Seattle's smashing new sports arenas - Safeco field, home of the Seattle Mariners baseball team, and Seahawks Stadium for pro football.

China Town

In the Chinatown - International District, one is just as likely to buy octopus, seaweed, and preserved tea eggs as watermelons and bananas. Also, we will be afforded a view of the famous Smith Tower, which, until 1962, was the tallest building West of the Mississippi.

Outstanding Views of the City

Seattle affords some amazing views of itself, due to its many steep hills and rises. From the amazing crow's perch of Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill, we will look over this thriving metropolis, out over downtown, over Elliott Bay, Bainbridge Island, and West Seattle. We'll even be able to see Harbor Island.

Quirky neighborhoods

Seattle has culled a large population of interesting personalities out of the Northwest's woodwork. We'll take a look at some of their neighborhoods, on the fringes of downtown and outward. We'll take a look at Queen Anne, Fremont, and Greenlake. If you are thinking about moving to Seattle, this part of the tour will probably be especially interesting. We'll see where Seattle lives, its rich, its bohemian, and everybody in between.

City's Ballard Locks

Even when the salmon are not spawning the Ballard Locks are a spectacular place to visit. They are the second largest locks in the U.S., and are by far the busiest. We'll see boats, both pleasure craft and commercial vessels, making the move from the salt-water of Puget Sound to the fresh water of Lake Washington, and vice-versa. And from June to November, when the salmon are spawning, we'll get to see a tremendous and exciting migration, and also perhaps a few sea lions, come not to watch the spectacle, but to eat it! We'll have time to discuss what the city of Seattle has tried to do about the sea lions' devastating impact on the Salmon population.

Giant Bridge Troll

Underneath the Aurora bridge lurks an interesting watcher, holding a VW bug in one hand. He is the Giant Bridge Troll, the protector and guardian of the Aurora Bridge. This huge monster was created in 1986 and commissioned by the Fremont Arts council.

Sleepless in Seattle floating home

Everyone always seems to want to see the Sleepless in Seattle floating home, and we are happy to show it during our tour. Seattle's floating homes are an amazing sight to see, and probably will excite a romantic feeling in even the most steadfast of hearts.

So, what is the best thing about living in Seattle? Well, by now it should be obvious: you get to take the Show Me Seattle tour! Of course, Seattle has other benefits as well, many of which are as obvious as the view of the Olympic Mountains and the giant dagger of Mount Rainier which dominate the horizon. Seattle is an amazingly recreationally oriented city. It is close to skiing, parasailing, water-skiing, hiking and camping, wonderful beaches for sunbathing and walking at sunset, and also rock climbing, bicycling, kayaking...the list is endless. Seattle has tremendous support for the arts, and is home to many interesting galleries, bookstores and museums, along with a world-renowned Symphony Orchestra, Opera House, and Ballet company. Despite all of this, Seattle is still a city that is in control of its own growth. The streets are well maintained, and the city itself is very clean and easy. We always hear on our tours that visitors find Seattleites very friendly.

Mystery Treats are included in each tour ... and don't forget to bring your camera!
